New to Fitness Routines? Thrive with These 10 Essential Tips

One day you decided that you want to start exercise, congratulation, you made the first step ! Here are some essential tips to ensure your success.

Tip 1: Always remember why you start ! Whether you were inspired by a fit individual, a health scare, or simply didn't like what you saw in the mirror, remember why you started !

Tip 2: Showing up is what counts not the results. Begin with what feels right for you, wether it's yoga, lifting weight, pilates, or walking. Joining group classes is a great way to get started and make sure to show up consistently for at least three months. It’s all about the routine, not immediate results.

Tip 3: Embrace the after-effect with a smile. As a beginner, you might experience muscle soreness and fatigue. This is normal! Hydrate, eat well and sleep well. Out of breath or having trouble keeping up is perfectly okay ! Don't feel pressure to perform !

Tip 4: If you want to get good at something, you need to repeat it.Find an exercise you enjoy, sticking to one type of exercise to start. Consistency is key to improvement—don’t switch around too often.

Tip 5: Good news: beginner gains are real ! You might notice improvements in just 4-6 weeks if you stay consistent. A beginner runner will see their fitness level goes up after a few weeks, finding themselves run a little bit faster each time without fatigue.

Tip 6: It's a long game, don't kill yourself ! There is a fitness tool called RPE ( Rate of Perceived Perception ) which is a metric to estimate how hard you work in a single bout of exercise session. 1 is like lifting a pencil, 10 is like trying to lift a car. Use the RPE aiming for a 6-8 intensity level, and finish your workout feeling good, you need effort but not to max out each time.

Tip 7: Recovery is part of the workout ! GAS theory (General Adaptation Syndrome) state that the frequency of the training is determined by the time it take to recover, so being consistent is important but under the circumstances that each training stimulus should allow recovery time. Ensure you rest adequately between sessions. Each person’s recovery time varies—listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

Tip 8: Expand your understanding of recovery and wellness. Exercise always lead the health protocol. I start learning about nutrition after I decided to gain muscle mass. I learn meditation after I started yoga. Immersed yourself with the knowledge of recovery protocol like nutrition, sleep, meditation, or other wellness tips to supports your journey. Arriving tired to your next workout can hinder progress.

Tip 9: Cultivate genuine interest in your chosen activities. Enjoyment is crucial. If you don’t like your exercise routine, you’ll likely quit. Ok to explore in the beginning to find what fits you and develop a genuine interest in your chosen exercise. Engage with communities, read, watch videos, or ask experts.

Tip 10: Want to fast track your progress, hire a coach. Lastly, don’t underestimate the value of a coach. Professional guidance can help you set goals, develop skills and adherance, and create effective exercise plans. Hiring a coach might be the best thing you have ever done for yourself !
